| Gas and/or bloating are side effects that may occur with radiation to the abdomen, pelvis, or rectum. Ask your doctor for help in finding the best medication prevent or control these symptoms. - Limit the amount of fluids you drink with your meals. Liquids tend to make you feel full, so have them between meals.
- Do not fill up on low-calorie drinks such as coffee, tea or diet soda.
- If able, take a walk to get a little exercise.
- Avoid decreased activity.
- Avoid gulping of air into stomach along with food. Do not drink through a straw.
- Avoid foods that cause you to have gas. (Such as beans, milk, milk products, cauliflower, broccoli, corn, apples, melon, prunes, large amounts of whole wheat products).
- Avoid fatty or greasy foods. Fats tend to stay in the stomach longer, giving a feeling of fullness.
- Avoid carbonated beverages and chewing gum.
